You know, my comics have always been a lot narrower than the average webcomic…these days, comics are frequently between 800 and 900 pixels wide, while I’ve been sitting at 749 pixels for like, two years. I originally kept them this small because I wanted to appease that little slice of my readership still using 800x600 resolution. Nowadays, though, that little slice has pretty much been reduced to a crumb as the last bastions of hope for the 800x600 holdouts move on to 1024x768. Therefore, earlier today I finally decided that the comic’s got to be bigger. However, I soon realized that it would take a lot of website tweaking to keep everything looking good while allowing the sort of size needed for a big comic upgrade. And sometimes, that’s great, you know? Sometimes I feel that flame under my ass and want to redesign everything. Sometimes, however, the last thing I want to do is go trudging through CSS and HTML in an effort to make a small, but site-wide, size change. This is one of those times! So I reached a compromise–for now, comics are going to be 770 pixels wide. Just wide enough to stretch across the width of the site without throwing the alignment out of whack. It’s not much, but it makes me feel a little better about my webcomic-width envy.
