Click a comic to see the large version!

Oh No! Robot!

It just occurred to me that I’ve never spoken to you all about a little service I’ve recently re-activated on my site called Oh No Robot. The more webcomic-savvy of you have surely heard of–and possibly even used–Oh No Robot in your daily lives. For those not familiar with the service, here’s the gist of how it works with George: Underneath most of the comics, you’ll see a “Transcribe This Comic” button. If you click it, it takes you to Oh No Robot where you can do exactly that–enter a word-for-word transcription of that comic. Over time, when more and more transcriptions have been added, a hearty, impressive database of George comic scripts will be kept on Oh No Robot, allowing anyone to search for any word that has ever appeared in any strip to find any comic they’re looking for. That’s the theory, anyway.

I used Oh No Robot a long, long time ago, but when I redesigned the website about a year ago, I simply didn’t have anywhere to put the Transcribe button. Now that I’ve redesigned the site to be wider and more luxurious, I’m using it again. I’m happy to say that today is the first time that anyone other than myself transcribed a George comic with Oh No Robot, so thank you, anonymous benefactor! Paul Southworth at Ugly Hill used to offer incentives for his readers to transcribe strips, like posting a new wallpaper when a certain number of transcriptions were entered. If you guys start entering transcriptions for George, I’m certainly willing to blatantly steal Paul’s idea like the hard-bitten criminal thief that I am.
