Characters
There are only three really main characters in the George comic strip (although just about every doodle I do is a new character), George, Dave, and Bill. I started drawing Bill in the sixth grade, and George followed near the end of seventh grade. Poor Bill got overshadowed by George, and George has nearly been overshadowed by Dave, a character who came into being sometime in the 10th grade. I have added two new characters, Rob and Greg, who are computer guys. Below is all the information you'd ever need...or want...to know about George, Bill, Dave, Greg, and Rob.
Of course, this is the main character, George. George is a pretty normal guy who's
life is, unfortunately for him, somewhat infringed upon by his retro hippie cousin,
Dave. Although seldom seen at work, George was a local radio DJ who's now employed
as the station manager. But, being station manager of a small local radio station
isn't too time consuming, so don't be surprised to see George spending most of his
time doing lots and lots of other things, usually involving cleaning up after one
of Dave's harebrained schemes, or being terrorized in some fashion by his rather
paranoid jumpy cat, Ba-bong.
And this is
George's cousin, Dave. Dave is a happy-go-lucky free-spirited new-age retro hippie
without a job who just wants to find his niche in life. Hey, if it weren't for Dave's
harebrained schemes, I might not even have a comic strip to work with. Dave makes
what little money he has by coming up with zany inventions every now and then, or,
as he says he does, he blackmails his friends. But I've never seen him in the act,
so I think he's just trying to be a big shot. Dave does have a pet monkey, and would
like to claim that he's a professional monkey handler, but the monkey's probably
smarter than he is...
Bill here is the least seen character
of the three, perhaps due to the fact that he actually has a real full-time job.
Bill works at a record store, as he has for quite a few years now, and is probably
the most normal person in the strip. Always hip to the latest in rock music, Bill
is pretty easygoing but isn't afraid to have some fun. Also, his newfound love for
professional wrestling makes him quite the character...you'll see once I start making
new comics again.
This is
Greg, yes, I KNOW HIS EYES ARE BLUE WHERE THEY SHOULD BE WHITE. I still haven't
gotten used to Photoshop yet :þ Anyway, Greg is big on computers and the whole digital
technology thing. He's usually found at his computer, on his way to buy things for
his computer, buying things for his computer, heading home from buying things for
his computer, and installing the new things into his computer. Greg is an internet
programmer, though his penchant for updating his own computer all the time kind
of constricts how much work he gets done. But it's no matter, because although Greg
is a techno-geek, he's got a great sense of humor and a great, uh, cup of coffee.
Which brings
us to Rob, who pretty much provides all the things Greg needs. You see, Rob owns
a small but dedicated computer store which has a small but dedicated clientele.
It's the place where the true computer junkie knows where to go to get the best,
newest stuff for great prices. I could really use a copy of the newest version of
Paint Shop Pro, Rob, because Photoshop gave you a blue outline. Anyway, a big computer
guy but not as prone to tinkering as Greg is. He seems to live in somewhat of a
bubble, being steadily involved in computers, computer parts, and his computer store.
You'll see.
And yes, I am working on getting a girl into the strip. Unfortunately, most of my "female" drawings end up looking, well, not so female. But this one is turning out good. I need a name, though...something down-to-earth, yet original...got any ideas? Drop me a line and be forever rewarded with the knowledge that I went with your suggestion ;)
